As mentioned above, any canon Elf character (with the exception of Lúthien) is eligible to be Suified. Be as ridiculous as you want- the more out of character the Sue and his/her besotted admirers, the better. Original character Sues are not allowed for this challenge.
Challenge for August 28th, 2003:
Given Pairing. Chose one (or more) of the following pairings and write a story for these two Elves. Any rating is fine, but it must be made clear that the two are indeed in some sort of relationship (for these purposes, a one night stand does count as a "relationship"). Any genre of story is allowed, though AUs will not be accepted for this challenge. The fic must be set in the appropriate time and place, and it's your job to make the pairing work.
You may choose from the following pairings: Elrond/Gildor, Gil-galad/Celeborn, Finwë/Ingwë, Turgon/Maeglin, Finrod/Thingol, Legolas/Erestor, Haldir/Arwen, Galadriel/Pengolodh, Lúthien/Oropher
Challenge for August 17th, 2003:
Steal-A-Plot. Write a story of any rating or genre, set in any age, containing any (Elf) characters. Only catch is, it must follow the plot of a previously-written narrative. Choose your favourite book, movie, play, opera, television episode, etc. and rewrite it with Elf characters. The overall storyline and characterisation must remain true to the original, though minor details may change. All main characters of the original must be present. However, they need not necessarily be the same gender. So if you were to rewrite, say, The Princess Bride for Elves, it would be permissible to cast Legolas as Buttercup.

Challenge for August 2nd, 2003:
Marginal Characters. Write a story of any type and rating, set during any Age, so long as it focuses on at least two marginal characters. Marginal characters are those who are not the main focus of any Tolkien story, are generally forgotten after the chapter in which they are mentioned is finished, and do not have an established fan base. So while Erestor could very well be classified as Marginal, his established fan base rules him out of this challenge. The more marginal the character, the better. Non-marginal characters may of course also be included, but they cannot be a main character in this story.
Some Marginal Character possibilities (feel free to think up your own as well):
Galdor (of both Grey Havens and Gondolin varieties), Lindir, Galion, Saeros, Daeron, Eärwen, Anairë, Amárië, Elemmírë, Rúmil (of Tirion), Olwë, Galathil, Angrod, Salgant, Nellas, Nimloth, Findis, Amdir... and I'll allow Pengolodh, even though he features prominently in some writings, just because he's still pretty marginal.
Challenge for July 18, 2003:
The List of Items. Write a story with any (Elf) character(s), of any rating, any setting, and any type. The only thing is, your story must include a reference to ALL of the following items: a toad, a half-empty bottle, a poorly-made piece of furniture, a musical instrument, a note from an unknown sender, and a squeaky door.

Challenge for July 4, 2003:
Canon Females. Granted there are few women in Tolkien's narrative, but there are even fewer fanfics about them. Write a story focusing on any one of Tolkien's female characters, from any of his Middle-earth writings.
Some suggestions to ponder:
How did Galadriel and Celeborn actually meet? What events led Aredhel to want to leave Gondolin? What did Nerdanel and Anairë end up doing in Aman after Fëanor and Fingolfin left? And what was Arwen up to during the War of the Ring?

Challenge for June 20, 2003:
Missing scenes. Write a scene that fits into either the Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit. It must fit into the timeline of the narrative, and take place between two existing book scenes. Also, it must focus on the same characters that feature in the surrounding scenes. For example, you could write a story outlining what the Fellowship did during their long stay in Rivendell. But a story about Elrond's doings during the War of the Ring, since he wasn't actually present in the narrative at that time, would not work for this challenge.
Some suggestions to ponder:
Much of the Fellowship's actual journey is glossed over- what exactly did they do on a day-to-day basis? What about Gildor and his Elves after the Hobbits fell asleep? Or Elladan and Elrohir on the battlefield before the Black Gate?
Challenge for June 2, 2003:
The Hobbit. There are too few fics written around this book.
Write a story that falls during the timeline of Bilbo's travels,
in which the main character (or characters) is not a member of
the adventuring party, but encounters them in some way. Can be a
substantial encounter or a brief glimpse, so long as the
encounter is important to the plot.
Some suggestions to ponder:
Where were Elladan and Elrohir while this was going on? Why the
heck were the Rivendell Elves singing such a dorky
"tra-la-la-lally" song? What was Legolas doing while the party
was imprisoned? How flamboyant would Elrond have to be to own a
red silk handkerchief anyhow? And where were the likes Gildor
and his crew during all this?
